The sandstone mountain peaks of Suilven, Canisp and Cul Mor are on you doorstep and Inverpolly with its forty square miles of natural wilderness, rare birds such as the golden plover and mammals including the rare pine martin is just down the road.

Knockan Crag Nature Reserve is within walking distance of the house and is great for discovering more about the geology and landscape of the area. It has a Visitor Centre which is open all year round.

From nearby Ullapool you can take boat trips around the Summer Isles - with good sightings of seals, dolphins and sea birds. Or take the car ferry to the Western Isles of Lewis and Harris (Outer Hebrides).

Wild brown trout and salmon fishing is superb on the many lochs and rivers of Assynt with fly fishing lessons available in Elphin.
